Laziness ~n~ Proverbs. Proverbs 6:9
A Rising Tide: The unemployment rate in America reaches 9.5%, the highest in 26 years. I exited an off ramp in route to Cuyahoga Falls yesterday at 7am where I witnessed a man sitting on the guard rail with a sign that read: I’m out of work and my family needs help. There are 12.5 million in America out of work.
What did the wisest man in the entire world have to say about laziness: How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep? Proverbs 6:9
I remember Dr. Jerry Falwell saying: There are those who would not work in a pie shop eating holes out of doughnuts. He went on to say: They are not afraid of work; they will lay down right beside of it. Ronald Reagan once said: It’s true hard work never killed anybody, but I figure, why take the chance? Mr. C.H. Spurgeon said: Some temptations come to the industrious, but all temptations attack the idle. Laziness is indeed the devil’s workshop.
A lazy person will not kill a lion. The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. (Proverbs 26:13) When the wolves are at the door, the sluggard will blame others for his trouble, nuisances, and poverty. He is afraid to get out of bed.
A lazy person will not do tomorrow, what he will not do today. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands. (Proverbs 6:10) His laziness gets worse each passing day. Dr. B.R. Lakin said: The bed is the most dangerous place one can be, more people die there than any other place!
A lazy person is an untrained person. The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute. (Proverbs 12:24) Learn which end of a hammer to hold!
A lazy person is a dishonest person. The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain. (Proverbs 15:19) When the sluggard is compared with the person who does right things, he is as crooked and a dog’s hind leg. He will lie, cheat, and steal to justify his own sinfulness. Shame on you!
A lazy person is always late. So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man. (Proverbs 6:11) This person will eventually end up a day late and dollar short. They will procrastinate till all life in this world will be siphoned out of them. They will continue to slide down the broad and wide way which will take them to hell—then it will be eternally too late. In hell they will live like they lived on earth where the unjust will be unjust still. They will die and live like they lived and died.
It seems to me, there is a difference between a man who can not work and the man who will not work. If a man will not work, neither should he eat.
